Band Discovers Secrets of The Universe, Songs Still Not Any Good

by Daniel

This is the kind of review that I really hate. Because Cinnamon Toast’s new album entitled “A Series Of” is, plain and simple, a series of boring, generic pop punk tracks. No one track really stands out from the rest in terms of musical arrangement or quality.

The album starts out not promising with “Public Transit” and then somehow maintains that no promise until the album wraps up with “San Jose.” These songs, they’re all just so “blah.” I will admit I did not despise my time with it but I find it hard to say anything interesting about what I just listened to. And I know it feels reductive to say this pop punk album is coming a decade too late but, if you’re going to play in this genre in 2018, you really need to do something interesting with it.

The only redeeming quality is that it would appear that, after their last album, Cinnamon Toast discovered several key secrets of the universe and has structured their album to thoroughly explain these secrets in detail. If you can force yourself past the milk-toast electric guitar riffs and flat lead singer.
