In relatively quick succession, both Apple and the Alphabet corporation have announced that they will remove support for the word “Buttigieg” in an update to their American English language autocorrect algorithms. These algorithms are key to many people’s iOS and Android experiences and these updates are designed to save on server space and reduce autocorrect latency.
This comes less than five months since the iOS algorithm added support for “Buttigieg” and less than six months for Android. The Android update is scheduled to push later today and while the iOS update date is unannounced, it is expected relatively soon.
Update: The first post-Buttigeg update is out now on Android.
