Quick Five Step Beginner’s Guide to Giant Bomb

by Daniel

Giant Bomb, a legendary personality based website about video games, celebrated its ten year anniversary earlier this year. But with thousands of hours of video and even more hours of audio podcasts, it can seem inscrutable to a new viewer. Luckily I have your back on this with this handy five step guide.

Step One: Watch a Quick Look. Specifically this one.

At only 12:56, this Quick Look is a quick™ excellent example of Giant Bomb’s personality based videos. Also, google 7-12 similar videos from other publications to properly understand how Giant Bomb is so different.

Step Two: Buy several Giant Bomb tshirts.

Buy some of that merch!

Part of Giant Bomb is the terrific community that they cultivate, which is best randomly bumped into out in the wild. Spend a couple weeks randomly walking around your city wearing these shirts.

Step Three: Follow them on twitter. Make up your own details about their personal lives.

Grab a coffee at Starbucks, pull out a notebook and just free-form write details about their personal lives until the ink runs dry. Part of the Giant Bomb experience is how they foster creativity and community involvement. Personally, I think Abby’s family immigrated from Portugal when she was a toddler. And her parents only spoke English in front of her as they felt she would better assimilate. But now she feels disconnected from her roots. And if anyone says otherwise, I will kill them in their sleep.

Step Four: Wait for a relative to die. Drown out your grief by listening to the Giant Bombcast.

Pod it up.

Face it, relatives die. Life is what happens while you wait for everyone you love to be taken from you. Throw in those earbuds when you start to think about how you disappointed them in life or how this eulogy isn’t going especially great.

Step Five: Quick Clean Up.

You’re almost a Giant B’er. Watch this classic episode of the lengthy Persona 4 endurance run entitled Endurance Run: Persona 4 – Part 94

Step Six: Go Premium.

Pay up, fuckers.

A lot of Giant Bomb’s best content is hidden behind a pay wall. Unfortunately, they don’t offer any free trials.

Step Seven: Create a satirical blog entry about your favorite site — Giant Bomb

Get hosting.

Meta blog posts are all the rage in 2018.

Step Eight: Take Thursday off work to watch UPF live

Watch live every Thursday.

UPF is Giant Bomb’s big weekly “unprofessional” stream. They put up archives but you really need to see these guys “throwdown” live at least once.

Step Nine: Look at this gif.

Step Ten: Stay up-to-date on all other media

Giant Bomb may be a video game website but they often touch upon all areas of media. Make sure you never miss a Amityville 6: It’s About Time reference.
