Jordan Peele Teases Alternate Cut Of “Us” Where Nothing Bad Happens

by Daniel

Jordan Peele took to twitter yesterday to provide some long awaited details on the already announced alternate cut of his hit film “Us” in which there is no blood shed or murderous doppelgangers. Whilst the “horror cut” was always intended to be the primary commercial cut of the film, this cut was planned from the start to play off the duality that is a central part of the horror cut and was featured heavily in it’s marketing.

The “vacation cut” is very much about a normal African American family enjoying a normal family vacation. And like a lot of vacations, things often don’t go as intended. Adelaide sees a lot of herself in her daughter and their relationship is somewhat strained as a result. And instead of the brother wandering off, the daughter, played perfectly by Shahadi Joseph, and the twins meet two boys on the beech. Who persuade them to sneak out and meet them at a party. And that’s really where the film diverges from the horror cut.

When pressed for details on these teenage boys, who do not appear in the original cut, Peele had this to say.

I can tell you they’re not murderers. They’re mostly just teenagers. Haha.

Universal Pictures has said that this cut will clock in at an even two hours, slightly longer than the horror cut, and will be packaged with the horror cut in a deluxe bluray set. They have yet to rule out any theatrical release for this new cut but we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a limited release in New York and LA to ensure both cuts qualify for the Academy Awards.
