Well, the debate may finally be over. Steve Gunderson, a hidden tech icon and prominent member of the Internet Architecture Board, has weighed in on the argument over how to pronounce the file extension “.GIF.”
The Internet Architecture Board (IAB) is “a committee of the Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF) and an advisory body of the Internet Society (ISOC). And whilst it’s oversight does not directly mention pronunciation it’s responsibilities include architectural oversight of IETF activities and Internet Standards Process. These guys are the real experts.
Actually, it’s pronounced GIF.
