Just in time for the holiday buying season, Nicolas Cage spoke to Entertainment Weekly earlier today to talk up the bluray release of his new film “Mandy.” And amongst other insights, he revealed that the film is in fact set at Christmas time and he considers it a Christmas movie. See more in the transcript below.
There is nothing in the text that explicitly says it and me and director we never quite put it into words. But I’ll tell you this. Very early in the production, you see, we were doing one of the bigger sequences first and I had to be covered in blood. Okay, fine, so I get there around 6 AM and they slather me with corn syrup. So we shoot for five hours and, you know, they can’t just take all that blood and makeup off for lunch. But Steve Gunderson(craft services), he decided to treat the crew to his famous tamales. White guy, fantastic tamales. I’m not missing that. I don’t care if I’m covered in shit.
So there I am, drenched in blood, at the tamale table. And up comes Panos(the director) and he’s looking to score a pork tamale. But I just grabbed the last pork. And we just look at each other. My eyes meet his. And, in that moment, we both knew this movie was a Christmas tale to be told and retold throughout the ages.
